Bitcoin was built for payments, yet collectors now trade art and tokens on it. Bitcoin-Ordinals made that shift possible in January 2023. The system lets users attach content to one satoshi, which is why many call the results Bitcoin NFTs. Readers following the market can also check today's Bitcoin news. Bitcoin Ordinals is a method for numbering satoshis, the smallest units of bitcoin, plus inscriptions that attach content to them through ordinary transactions. It needs no sidechain and no separate token. Developer Casey Rodarmor launched the protocol in January 2023. Ordinal theory gives each Satoshi a serial number based on mining order. Bitcoin Ordinals track those numbers through transfers using a first-in, first-out rule across transaction inputs and outputs. Inscriptions then attach content to a chosen satoshi.
