Bitcoin news, and nothing else

BTC Daily Wire is an independent news site. It covers Bitcoin only. Other cryptocurrencies are left out, including coins that carry “Bitcoin” in their name, such as Bitcoin Cash. Bitcoin news is spread across release notes, developer newsletters, the crypto press and general outlets. We put it in one place and sort it.

How the news gets here

Every ten minutes we read about fifty feeds. From the project side: Bitcoin Core release notes and bitcoincore.org, the Bitcoin Optech newsletter, and the release notes of the Lightning implementations LND and Core Lightning. From Bitcoin-focused outlets: Bitcoin Magazine, Cointelegraph's Bitcoin feed and CryptoSlate. From the wider crypto press: CoinDesk, Decrypt, The Block, The Defiant, Protos and others. From general outlets: CNBC, The Guardian and TechCrunch. We also run news searches on Google News and Bing.

A story is kept only when its headline names Bitcoin. Token presale promotions, price predictions, gambling and betting posts, sponsored posts and press releases are filtered out. Each story is then filed under one section:

• Markets: price moves, futures and macro.
• ETFs & Treasuries: spot ETFs, companies and countries that hold bitcoin, and banks.
• Mining: hashrate, difficulty, miner earnings and energy.
• Protocol & Lightning: Bitcoin Core, BIPs, Lightning and wallets.
• Law & Policy: regulation, tax, courts and governments.
• Security & Scams: hacks, thefts, fraud and seizures.

When several outlets report the same story, we show it once and list every outlet. Story pages show the headline, an excerpt of at most 100 words, who else reported it and a link to the original. We never copy a full article. Stories stay on file between ten days and a month, depending on the section. Every feed is listed, live, on the sources page.

Live numbers

The tape under the header shows the BTC price, the 24-hour change, the block height, the fee and the time to the next halving. The price comes from Coinbase, with Kraken as a backup. Blocks and fees come from Blockstream's explorer. Network statistics come from Blockchair. Our server refreshes them about once a minute. They can be delayed or wrong, so each number is shown with its source and time. The Network page explains the numbers in plain words.

Story pages carry “Price then / now”: the BTC price in the hour the story was published, and the price now. It is context. It is not a claim that the story moved the price. All times on the site are UTC.

Not financial advice

BTC Daily Wire never gives financial advice. We do not say buy or sell, and we do not publish price predictions. Nothing on the site is a recommendation to do anything with your money.

Reader articles

The Community section carries pieces written by registered readers. An editor reads each one before it goes live, and the author's name is on it.

Independence

BTC Daily Wire is not affiliated with any exchange, mining company, wallet maker, ETF issuer or software project. Bitcoin has no company behind it and no official spokesman. Release notes from the Bitcoin Core project are marked “Project” on the site. Paid placements are labelled “Advertisement”. Advertisers do not see or influence our coverage.

Corrections

If a story is filed under the wrong section, a number looks wrong or a reader article contains an error, tell us through the contact page. We correct errors quickly and say what we changed.
