Who gets 61,896 bitcoin that British police seized and a British judge used to imprison a fraudster? A court in Tianjin wants a say, and nobody has settled the answer. The application landed in Tianjin on September 28. That day, the Tianjin Second Intermediate People's Court accepted a request from local prosecutors to confiscate the illegal gains of Qian Zhimin, who ran a Chinese investment fraud from 2014 to 2017. Yicai Global reported that the filing covers 61,896.41552945 bitcoin, worth close to $5 billion at recent prices, plus 72,745 units each of Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin Satoshi Vision. Then there's roughly 3.6 million XRP and about 70 million dogecoin, which British authorities have already converted to cash and parked in an interest-bearing account.
