BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - A nationwide scam is drawing attention with local law enforcement, and it all starts with a phone call or email. Bitcoin scammers are using fake jury duty notices and threats of arrest to pressure victims into draining their bank accounts. Altocoin Pro co-founder Joni Zhuleku said the scammers are now using artificial intelligence to make the threats sound convincing. “It’s not just Bitcoin, but there’s so many kind of scams happening and they are evolving, especially now with AI, but it usually becomes from, you know, bad actors imitating an exchange,” Zhuleku said. Once scammers reach a victim, they demand immediate payment. Instead of wire transfers or gift cards, they direct victims to Bitcoin machines at convenience stores.
