Heatbit has unveiled its Bitwater heating element for tank-based electric water heaters that not only heats household water but also mines Bitcoin throughout the day. The heating element is designed as a DIY drop-in replacement for an existing unit. The Bitwater is designed to mine Bitcoin at up to 34 TH/s (terahashes per second) without increasing the electricity bill while generating up to 600 watts of heat continuously from 20 BM1370 ASIC chips. As long as it has a Wi-Fi connection, the miner can generate roughly a dollar a day, while mining solo on the Heatbit pool (although it can be switched to other pools). This is much lower than the 4500 watts of an ordinary heating element commonly found in 240-volt, dual-element tanks.
