Economist and author of “The Bitcoin Standard” Saifedean Ammous stated that the first cryptocurrency is already functioning as a medium of exchange. In his view, the impact of volatility on this process will only decrease. Ammous made these comments in response to statements by Professor Lawrence White. In his book “Better Money: Gold, Fiat, or Bitcoin?” White argued that Bitcoin’s fixed supply makes it too volatile. The professor believes that the inability of supply to respond to demand spikes is the main reason stablecoins have surpassed Bitcoin in transaction volume. Ammous disagreed with this position.
