Bitcoin and gold, two of the most popular hedges against economic turmoil, are on track for an unusual first. Charlie Bilello, chief market strategist at Creative Planning, and a strong voice in the crypto industry, said on X that Bitcoin is down 7.3% and gold is down 7.5% so far in 2026, making them the two worst-performing major assets of the year. “This is something we haven’t seen before in any calendar year,” Bilello wrote. From top performers to laggards Bilello’s table, which ranks 21 asset classes every year since 2011, uses data through Oct. 23. Only 57% of them are positive this year.
