Anthropic, the company behind Claude, has received a junk credit rating, raising questions about the risks behind the AI investment boom. Bitcoin advocates see a much bigger problem emerging in traditional finance. Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA) assigned Anthropic a BB+ rating in June, although the assessment only became public in October. BB+ sits one level below investment grade. In simple terms, it means lending to the company carries greater credit risk than lending to higher-rated borrowers. Investors therefore demand higher returns to compensate. The rating also covered $4.4 billion in junior debt within Anthropic’s $35 billion AI chip financing deal. That debt offered roughly 8.5% in annual yield, compared with 5.75% on senior debt backed by Broadcom. But why should Bitcoin investors care about an AI company’s credit rating?
